We at Kooky wear started as a group of millennials from a small town in Rajasthan, India. Dreamers with big ambitions and will to thrive. After getting out of our hometowns for further studies, we located to different cities and continued our lives there. New cities greeted us with their charms from skyscrapers to different cultures. Everyone there hustled to chase their dreams and aspirations. We each dived headfirst into fast paced world to this new world. Days blurred into nights as we navigated through endless train rides, studies, weekend chores and the relentless pursuit to survive.
It was the time when ecommerce market, UPI, small business, social media started to flourish. New trends were emerging, You Tube & Tik Tok we taking over the entertainment and the interest of younger minds. Flipkart and Amazon were the new market and were slowly becoming our preferred marketplaces. Despite that the vibrant markets int the city we found rare moments of respite. The pop of colours, the bustling crowds, the art of negotiation in would make us lively.
We all had one thing in common was our love for art, fashion, photography and multimedia. We often went shopping to burst out of the stress bubble. The pockets were tight and the concept of brands was farfetched. With that we discovered the concept of thrift. Finding stunning items in most remote markets at fraction of costs. From window shopping to thrift shopping, it became more like an adventure. The discovery of bold textures, bolts of fabric and stacks of loosely folded clothes and various other items in small shops made us super happy and excited to find more.
Due to our jobs being in different cities, we video called each other and showed off our priced possessions. This made us talk for hours and discuss how we should just open a thrift store, leave our jobs and do this all our life. Practical – No, Fun to Imagine – Yes. As time passed, we all became super busy with our lives, daily conversations were reduced to calling on birthdays and plans to meet were often cancelled for some reason or other. We settled into new jobs and corporate structures. Thrift casuals changed to office formals; Shopping sprees turned to easy access mall visits.
Admits the whirlpool of deadlines and meeting, we somewhere fought with a feeling of relentlessness. The shine of our dreams started to fade as we yearned for something more fulfilling, something that resonated with our passion.
As we stated to settled in our, we were all hit a by pandemic that was corona. Like thousands we got caught up in the turmoil of layoffs, family issues & health problems. During this troubling time, we found one silver lining, that we were all back to our home town. After a video call out of boredom, we were surprised to know how much has happened in our lives but the one thing still persist was our wish to start a business.
We met after things calmed down; we reestablished our bond. For all of us it was a bittersweet homecoming, marked by moments of nostalgia and the comfort of familiar faces. However, amidst the challenges of settling back into a quieter pace of our life, we found solace in the unwavering support of or loved ones.
One random day while watching a business reality show and were fascinated to watch how various star up founder have taken tier small business to achieve new heights, ignited a spark in us to do they have done and start a new venture together as a side hustle. We were all super excited and started to prepare. As we began to plan how and what to do, we were again hit by reality, Our offices opened up and we were called back. The decision was tough but some of us had to leave and eventually the idea was dropped.
Today we might be apart but as of now but I took it upon me to make this kooky dream a reality. Slowly but surely, I and my renewed team of skilled dreamers will emerge and make sure our unwavering passion resonates with customers seeking authenticity and meaning in their purchases.
